What results does it give?

Rhinoplasty offers the possibility of improving the aesthetic appearance of the nose by reducing, reshaping the tip, changing the shape of the back or changing the angle between the forehead and the nose, or between the nose and upper lip.

What kind of surgery is it?

It is a plastic surgery, which can go to intervene on the skin, cartilages and bone to reshape the shape of the nose permanently.

This type of surgery can be performed for aesthetic reasons or for functional reasons, such as any deviations of the septum, which do not allow the patient to breathe correctly.

How long does it take to see the results and how often is the intervention repeated?

The final result will be visible after a few months since, once the surgery is completed, edema and swelling will form in the affected area which will take several weeks before disappearing completely.

However, it will already be possible to see the first results two weeks after the surgery.

During this period, dressings and check-ups will be necessary which will be agreed in advance with the surgeon, who will remain available to the patient at every stage of the process.

However, it is possible to undergo a new surgery, to correct any other defects, called secondary rhinoplasty.

The patient can book a new consultation to evaluate the feasibility of this intervention.

How is the surgery performed?

Rhinoplasty is performed in the Day Hospital, under total anesthesia.

The operation lasts about an hour, depending on the needs of the patient who, after a few hours of hospitalization, can be taken back home.

Once out of the Center, the patient will have to go through a two-week convalescence period before resuming his normal activities completely. Sports activity is recommended after at least one month.

The surgical techniques normally used for this type of surgery are two:

  • Open rhinoplasty

  • Closed rhinoplasty

The first consists in cutting at the level of the columella of the nose (cartilage that separates the nostrils). The second, on the other hand, consists of small incisions inside the nostrils.

If open rhinoplasty is the most complex technique, it must be said that it is also the most precise. However, the choice between the two will be made by the surgeon after a scrupulous analysis of the real needs of the patient.

What time of year is it recommended to carry out the surgery?

The operation can be carried out at any time of the year, but it is advisable that the affected part is not exposed to the sun for about a month.

At the end of this period, the use of a very high protection sunscreen is still recommended.
